Since the reform and opening up, the development of China's medical device industry has attracted the attention of the world, especially since the beginning of the 21st century, the industry as a whole has entered a stage of rapid growth. In the past five years, the number of medical institutions in the country has grown steadily, and in the next few years, it will bring a large amount of investment in medical infrastructure, and medical device manufacturers will benefit. Beginning in 2014, the first responsibility of medical device manufacturers will be further implemented, and the quality and safety awareness and level of production enterprises will be significantly improved, so as to promote the structural adjustment and industrial upgrading of the medical device industry, and enhance the quality and safety assurance capabilities of medical devices in China. However, the development of China's medical device industry still has a long way to go.
According to the data of the National Bureau of Statistics, the number of enterprises above designated size in China's medical device manufacturing industry was 1,449 in 2016, and the number of enterprises above designated size in China's medical device manufacturing industry increased to 1,530 in 2017. From 2011 to 2017, the number of enterprises above designated size in China's medical device manufacturing industry.
At present, China's medical device market is growing rapidly, and has become the world's third largest medical device market after the United States and Japan, and China has become the main region driving the increase of the global market. In the next few years, if the current development speed is maintained, China will surpass Japan to become the world's second largest medical device market. Medical devices and drugs are two important means of medical treatment, the sales ratio of the two in developed countries is relatively close, and the sales of medical devices in China are about one-third of the sales of drugs, which shows that the market potential of medical devices in China is huge.
China's medical device market is active, and the guidance of national policies and the upgrading of equipment in domestic medical and health institutions have made China a huge medical device consumer market. Under the background of market demand stimulation and the sustained and stable development of China's economy, China's medical device industry has developed rapidly. The important position in the entire pharmaceutical industry is becoming more and more prominent, and it is following the development path of "heavy equipment and light drugs" in developed countries, of course, there is still a long way to go.
With the development of China's medical device industry, several medical device industry clusters and manufacturing development belts have been formed across the country, and the Pearl River Delta, the Yangtze River Delta and the Beijing-Tianjin-Bohai Bay have become the three major local medical device industry clusters. According to incomplete statistics, the sum of the total output value and sales of medical devices in the three regions account for more than 80% of the national total. Because of their different conditions, these three major industrial clusters show obvious regional characteristics.
In 2016, the total output value of China's medical device manufacturing industry was 298.608 billion yuan, and in 2017, the total output value of China's medical device manufacturing industry was 296.669 billion yuan.
From the perspective of the output value of subdivided fields, the output value of grandmothers in the field of medical, surgical and veterinary equipment exceeded 100 billion yuan in 2017, followed by the output value of medical diagnosis, monitoring and treatment equipment of 96.436 billion yuan.
The Pearl River Delta with Shenzhen as the center (including Zhuhai, Guangzhou and other places), the development and production of comprehensive high-tech medical device products is its strength, the main products are monitoring equipment, ultrasound diagnosis, MRI and other medical imaging equipment and gamma knife, X-knife and other large-scale stereotactic radiotherapy equipment, tumor hyperthermia equipment, etc., directly reflecting the new technology of modern medical devices. Shenzhen's export of medical devices has developed rapidly, and the total output value of regional production has increased at a rate of more than 30%.
Shenzhen's industrial advantages lie in the fields of electronics, computers, communications, mechatronics, etc., and the development of modern medical devices is a synthesis of high-tech achievements in these fields, resulting in intensive advantages, coupled with Shenzhen's preferential policies, mechanisms, market and other factors of incentives and cultivation, so that the medical device industry in Shenzhen can flourish.
In recent years, the Bohai Bay Rim region (including Tianjin, Liaoning and Shandong) with Beijing as the center has developed rapidly, and a production enterprise group including DR, MRI, digital ultrasound, accelerator, computer navigation and positioning medical equipment, respiratory anesthesia machine, orthopedic equipment and cardiovascular equipment is being formed. A number of small and medium-sized enterprises have risen rapidly, and these enterprises have only been established for a few years, but the output value has approached or even exceeded 100 million yuan. With the help of the government's attention and their own scientific and technological capabilities, they are more inclined to the field of digital medical devices, although the power shown in the market is not very prominent and strong at present, but the momentum is strong and the potential is huge.
Shanghai has a deep industrial foundation, whether it is products or technology, Shanghai is the leader of China's medical device industry. The Yangtze River Delta region with Shanghai as the center (including Jiangsu and Zhejiang) is one of the three major industrial clusters of medical devices in China, which is characterized by rapid industrial development, active small and medium-sized enterprises, and obvious regional characteristics, and its domestic market share of disposable medical devices and consumables exceeds half. In addition, there are ophthalmology equipment in Suzhou, medical ultrasound in Wuxi, microwave in Nanjing, radiofrequency tumor hyperthermia, MRI in Ningbo and Shanghai's comprehensive strength, which are relatively prominent.
In addition, the Chengdu-Chongqing region, with Chongqing as the center, and the central China region with Wuhan as the center, are also emerging regions featuring biomedical materials and implantable devices and tissue engineering.
The medical device manufacturing industry in all regions of the country has begun to exert force, and the number and scale of medical enterprise industry production enterprises have shown a multi-point flowering situation, and the number of manufacturing enterprises in some subdivisions is hundreds, and the industry competition is becoming more and more intense, which has promoted the technological development and industry maturity of medical devices in China to a certain extent.
In 2017, the sales revenue of China's medical device industry was 282.810 billion yuan, and the import amount of China's medical devices was 137.526 billion yuan according to the exchange rate of the same period, and the export amount was 146.577 billion yuan, and the scale of China's medical device market increased from 61.334 billion yuan in 2010 to 273.759 billion yuan in 2017.
